Biography

Born in Hong Kong, Alvin Leung began studying violin with his father at the age of three. He was admitted to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts studying violin performance at the age of eleven and furthered his studies at the German National Music University, Karlsruhe (Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe).


Throughout his violin career, Alvin had studied with Leung Kin Fung (Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), Le Hoai-nam (Second Violin Principal of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta), Annelie Groth (Second Violin Principal of the Baden State Orchestra). From 2015-2021 he was Masterstudent at the University of Music Karlsruhe study with Prof. Nachum Erlich (Head of Strings at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe).


Alvin was active in different competitions, music festivals and had different achievements. Including the second place in the Hong Kong Music Festival Group for all ages, the fourth place in the National Cross-Strait Violin Grand Competition. He has also worked with different international musicians on the same stage such as, Lang Lang, Ray Chen, Ivry Gitlis, Eötvös, Laurent Albrecht Breuninger, Frank Dupree and more.


Alvin was invited by Radio Hong Kong(RTHK) to record an interview, and was voted as one of the "most anticipated Hong Kong violinists" by other participants. He also participated in different Premiere Concerts with different international musicians such as Wolfgang Rihm, Eötvös and Tan Dun.


In addition to different competitions and performances, he is also active in the orchestra. Alvin Leung was concertmaster in the "Hong Kong Youth Chamber Orchestra", "Music Festival Youth Symphony Orchestra", "Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra", "Academy of Performing Arts Chamber Orchestra" and played as the Second Violin Principal at the “University of Music Karlsruhe Orchestra”. He has also received a number of scholarships, including the "Sir Robert Black Trust Fund", "Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Scholarship" and "Germany National DAAD Scholarship".


Alvin Leung once served as the music director at the Hong Kong Music Education Center, committed a lot promoting music education for children and advocating the whole-person development of children. He also gave several Masterclasses in Germany, Spain and Hong Kong to young talented players. Students from him won different awards in Hong Kong and Germany. After entering the University of Music Karlsruhe (Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe), he started organizing different workshops and programs with local artists in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart.
